Doodles of Sadness
Doodles of Sadness is a comic strip series I started as a way to cope with clinical depression. Over the course of almost ten years, depression become an apparently insurmountable mountain – a black hole from which escape seemed impossible. You can ask anyone with the illness; they'll confirm it.
I decided, however, that if there had to be misery, then I needed to mock it. Humor has a way of cutting things down to size, and these quickly-drawn, vertical strips became one of my ways of chopping down the mountain into a hill – of turning the black hole into a gray puddle.
After all, hills can be climbed, and puddles can be crossed.
